One independent agency shows up in 60% of AI answers. Most Raleigh agents never show up at all.

In September 2026 I asked ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity for an independent agent, a home and auto agent, cheap car insurance, business insurance and life insurance in Raleigh. 81 agencies and carriers were named. 54 of them once.

Price questions go to chains. Coverage questions go to agents.

Ask for cheap car insurance and the answer is Direct Auto, Freeway and Estrella, storefront chains built for price shoppers. Ask for business insurance or a home and auto agent and independent agencies take it: G. Suggs, Morris, Lee Winters, Zacharko. The questions an independent agent can win are the ones where advice matters.

Life insurance is a different list again

The life insurance question went to NC Farm Bureau and individual agents, not the agencies that won home and auto. Each line of coverage is its own shortlist.

Most agents are invisible

Of the 332 independent agencies in the Triangle I pulled from Google Maps, 271 were never named. 6 of those carry a Google Ads conversion tag, and the largest has 789 Google reviews.

Brands behind the campaigns I have run
